I Put A Spell On You – Live At The Ding Dong Lounge

Here’s a clip of us playing ‘I Put A Spell On You,’ shot live at Ding Dong Lounge last December. The song was originally recorded by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins back in 1956. Apparently his entire band was heavily intoxicated throughout the recording session, where Hawkins screamed and grunted his way through the song with utter drunken discard.

Afterward he had to relearn the song from the recorded version because he couldn’t actually remember the session. Nonetheless it was banned from radio in some areas due to it being too raunchy and years later was selected as one of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s, “Songs that Shaped Rock & Roll.” It’s been covered by some of the greats, such as Creedence Clearwater Revival and Nina Simone… Hope you enjoy our take on it!
